Q: How many lessons should I take before applying for my test?
A: Last time I checked DSA website they recommended 45 hours professional tuition with 22 hours private practice. However those figures are average and will depend on the person learning to drive.
Q: When am I ready?
A: Simple! Can you do all the skills required for your test independently or with very few prompts? Be honest with yourself. If the answer is yes, then your Instructor should be the first person to say to you to start booking your test. The Examiner is a trained assessor, so if you continuously need help from your Instructor you are not ready and the Examiner will only confirm this.
Q: Can I pass first time?
A: This depends on what type of training you had and how confident you are in driving independently. Remember nerves and stress can play a big factor, these can influence your performance. This is due to the fact that you’re going into the 'unknown' and a stranger is sitting next to you. After the test if you passed then all is good, however if you failed then all is not lost, as you would have gained valuable experience and next time you would feel at ease!
Remember long term goal is to be a safe driver and the last thing you want to do is accumulate points on your licence after you passed. As this will cost you more in insurance premiums and if you manage to total 6 points then you will be faced with an extended retest. So learn at your own pace and you WILL hopefully pass with ease without having to worry about your driving after you pass.
Q: I hear Examiners got a set number of passes for the day?
A: Not true, if you demonstrate your skills and meet all the criteria on your test day, the Examiner will pass you. |
